<text>"The Museum of Motherhood (M.O.M.) is an exhibition and education center dedicated to the exploration of family – past, present, and future with a focus on mothers, fathers, and families. M.O.M.’s mission is to start great conversations, feature thought-provoking exhibits, and share information and education. Our aim is to collect, preserve, and disseminate articles, books, artifacts, images, and research on the science, art, and history of all aspects of procreation, birth, and caregiving. We care about those engaged in these activities, and actively promote members of the community interested in the emerging areas of Mother and Father Studies. M.O.M. is the first and only social change facility of its kind. We do not discriminate, are open to all perspectives, and recognize diversity as a guiding premise. The museum is currently online only, with events throughout NYC, as well as strategic Pop Up Exhibits as we search for our next-stage physical location."

              <text>Broodwork is the ongoing art and design project founded by Iris Anna Regn and Rebecca Niederlander to investigate the interweaving of creative practice and family life. BROODWORK’s multi-faceted approach of talking, blogging, designing, event-making, and curating exists to examine and illuminate, and also to foster an advantageous environment that will in itself stimulate innovation.

Mission: the cross-disciplinary art and design project that names the previously unspoken community of practitioners whose work realized an unexpected perspectival shift after becoming parents. All creative practitioners find themselves at crossroads throughout their life; however, being affected by the specific juncture of practice and family is not generally acknowledged for its true impact. Who would have thought that writing for his son about a bear named Winnie-the-Pooh would catapult the political satirist A. A. Milne from Punch magazine into the stratosphere of literary history. His era’s exception, however, is our rule; the convergence of family and practice is recognized by BROODWORK as a pivotal influence to produce profound and unexpected work. Through its multi-faceted approach—including talking, curating, designing, and blogging--BROODWORK exists to investigate and illuminate, and to foster an advantageous environment that will in itself stimulate innovation. Curatorial installations are a predominant expression of BROODWORK in which Regn and Niederlander work hand-in-hand with creative practitioners to facilitate an entirely new conception of specific works within their practice. All BROODWORK events incorporate participatory elements that foreground the intergenerational and community-building aspects of the project. BROODWORK also collaborates with other organizations to further the discussion of creative practice and family life. Regn and Niederlander act as Family and Practice Advisor for the Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles, write about interweaving family and practice for the Herman Miller Lifework blog, and design the SUNBLOCK series of family-oriented events for the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design.</text>

              <text>Being a parent is pretty challenging. And raising a kid while trying to be an artist/writer/you-name-it can

feel pretty overwhelming– especially when you throw in Boston’s insanely high cost of living.

But we’re creative people. Maybe if we get together and talk and listen, we can find ways to support

each other. Maybe we can focus some of our creative energy on the problems that all parents face, and

find some solutions. Maybe we can make it easier for ourselves in the process, and for other

artist/parents down the road.

“How to be an artist and a parent?” is a series of discussion events and an online forum. It’s set up by

Greg Cook and Tim Devin, but is inspired by some initiatives in other cities. Things like Cultural

Reproducers in Chicago, and Invisible Spaces of Parenthood in London.</text>

At the end of the 42 weeks (May 2014) a celebratory exhibition will be held at The Artsmill Gallery in Hebden Bridge. The exhibition will be born out of the communications and interactions made visible through this space.

The site includes documentation of visual art work, video, sound, performance and texts including contextual dialogue and blog posts that have arisen through the creative process. <text>In our contemporary ceramic community many women have gracefully tackled the lively experiment that is being both artist and mother. Mothering is a complex subject that touches many aspects of an artist’s life and practice. These dual roles simultaneously impact each other both practically and conceptually. As many women have discovered, to experience maternity is to epitomize the vessel. This along with clay’s often-recognized metaphoric relationship to the stages of life itself, provides artists who utilize clay in their work a unique perspective on the art/motherhood lively experiment.

Over the past year(s), Kate Fisher has been surveying, interviewing and documenting a cross section of ceramic artists who are also mothers. Examining how children, or the circumstances of their lives as they include them, changed and impacted the work these artists choose to make and/or how they make it.

The goal of www.bothartistandmother.com is to present an ongoing digital record of interviews and stories from women ceramicists. The hope is that this project will provide insight and encouragement to talented female artists, which in turn impacts the field’s future. Initially the site includes profiles of 11 artist/mothers.This is important, because it encourages talented female artists, which in turn impacts the field’s future. Initially, the site includes profiles of 11 artist/mothers. The hope is to repeat the interview process with additional artist/mothers in the future. Site visitors are able to listen to or download interviews with the artists, read transcriptions of the dialogues and view links to related events, information, and exhibits. The site’s flexible format will accommodate an ever-expanding narrative and exchange of stories, questions, and advice designed to help artists communicate.</text>

              <text>CreativeCollaborative Mothers is an art project initiated by New Delhi based artist Ruchika Wason Singh .Its is based on the belief, that motherhood is a universal experience and an energy; which can transform itself to the understanding of extended realities, beyond borders and cultures. The project is structured as a residency , with the aim of bringing together artist mothers for a period of one week. To collaborate , to live together, to exchange notes and to create in a homely space , is the focus of the project. The participating artists are free to explore new collaborations or find extensions of their previous projects through their dialogues.

The project shall provide support of space for studio and accommodation to the participating artists, in a warm and cosy bungalow in the hills of Uttarakhand, India. All other expenses are to be borne by the artists themselves. The project is as much focused on the process , as also the product. At the end of the residency, each participating artist is expected to submit in original , two works on paper produced during the stay and a text piece on the process , impacted by the residency and the scope of exchange and dialogue it provided.The works and text submitted (in an A4 size folder) shall be a part of an archive .

Currently, the project is self – funded by Ruchika Wason Singh. Participating artists are expected to apply for funding if required.</text>

              <text>About:

Mothers in Arts supports women artists who are also mothers and shines a light on the mother-shaped blindspot within the art world. It puts forward a discussion about a problem that affects many young artist women when they become parents. Even though many artists have children, parenthood - specially motherhood - remains stigmatized in the art world. Therefore, besides the physical and mental challenges of childbearing an added feeling of isolation can be felt by many mothers. We believe that women have to remain part of the art community after they’ve become mothers. Mothers in Arts is a platform for artists and through an artists in residency we want to stimulate young women artists with children. Being a mother is not a stigma; motherhood can accompany a successful artistic practice.

Residency:

Mothers in Arts Residency (MA Residency) will be a studio space combined with a communal nursery. The Residency is specialized in supporting young emerging women artists, who are also mothers. Mothers in Arts is free of charge; the artists agree on take turns to work and look after each others children around an organized work schedule.

MA Residency provides studio space for 3 artists and their children. The residency invites emerging woman artists to apply whose children are between 3 months an 24 months old. (3 months is the given maternity leave in the Netherlands and 2 years is the age, when according to the new regulation of childcare, children are provided with 2 days a week subsidized daycare) This “in between” period is crucial for an artist-parent: through the strict schedule and the constant attention which a baby requires, critical practice becomes limited. The Residency gives young mothers an opportunity to continue their artistic development.

MA Residency takes place in Amsterdam between March 2017 and May 2017, and will be finished with an exhibition in June 2017.
</text>

Founded by Lauren McLaughlin, Spilt Milk is a curated platform showcasing the beautiful, exciting, diverse and groundbreaking artwork being produced by International female artists who are practicing art alongside raising children. As well as providing opportunities for artists to exhibit work, gain exposure and sell work, we are also creating links with flexible/affordable childcare models in Scotland and the rest of the UK in order to make it easier for artists with children to create new work and sustain their careers. We aim to facilitate an exciting programme of exhibitions, events and workshops which will create a supportive and collaborative community for female artists and their children to fully engage with the contemporary art world.</text>

              <text>Artist Mother Studio (AMS) seeks to shift the conversation around motherhood to broaden its definition beyond that of a universalist white paternalism to an understanding of it as the conditioning of a world to come. For nine weeks, WPA will function as an artist residency with childcare. AMS will conclude with a mini-conference and a zine on November 3. The project has been organized by DC artist Amy Hughes Braden, with the participation of three artists—Leah Lewis, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, and Anne Smith—and their four children, who range in age from several months to 3 years. Braden hopes AMS will elevate the voices of artist mothers/caregivers and continue important conversations about communal labor and how mothers can leverage their experiences for positive social change. But most of all, AMS foregrounds the dependency and entanglement of being a caregiver (a loss, in a traditional sense, of personal freedom) as a generative position from which to create art.

This is the second iteration of AMS, the first took place at Rhizome DC during spring 2018.

              <text>
Mothers Who Make is a growing national initiative aimed at supporting mothers who are artists - professional and/or passionate – writers, painters, actors, dancers, musicians, film-makers....every kind of maker is welcomed, and every kind of mother.

MWM was born in London in 2014 with Theatre Maker and Improbable Associate Director, Matilda Leyser. The initiative grew from Leyser's sense of there being experiences and challenges specific to being both a mother and an artist. She noticed many parallels between the two roles: both are concerned with creativity and play, both require stamina, patience, sensitivity, both keep her up at night. At the same time she was struck by the strength of the cultural assumption that the two were incompatible: she was told she must compromise on either her creative work or her mothering. She wanted to challenge this. She put out an invitation to mother-artists, across art forms, to join a peer support group to which they could also bring their children of any age. The response has been extraordinary.

MWM has rapidly spread across the country. There are currently regular peer-support groups meeting at 22 major arts-related venues in different regions, with more groups in the process of starting across the UK in 2019.

How does MWM work?

MWM meetings take place monthly in an arts-related venue. It is critical that the meeting is given the status of a participatory workshop, a rehearsal or class. A local mother-artist acts as a facilitator and participants are supported to exchange and work in a variety of ways. They explore emergent themes in their mothering and their making, points of connection between the two roles, points of dissonance, particular challenges, helpful resources. Examples of recent themes include: how to change and maintain your practice; the positive impact of motherhood on your work; housework – who does it?!

Every MWM meeting models a rare space in which participants are recognized and valued equally in their dual roles of mother and artist. The sessions are adult-centred but children are welcome to attend. Each MWM group shares a common ethos and practice but is able to grow and develop in response to the needs and interests of the regional artists that attend it. We want as many people as possible to be part of the unfolding MWM conversations. We do not seek to define who is a 'mother' or an 'artist'. Our reach is across generations and artforms - we are thrilled by the plurality of voices that are part of this discussion.
</text>

The aim of this project is to extract the gold from challenging experiences of motherhood by giving opportunities for artists who are mothers to work with those who may be experiencing mental health difficulties as a result of motherhood. This involves a series of art & writing workshops at the De La Warr Pavilion in 2019 led by artist-mothers for a group of mothers referred by Recovery Partners, resulting in a series of podcasts & publication of their work, which will raise awareness of the hidden issues surrounding motherhood & mental health. The project aims to give voice to a diverse group of mothers at all stages of motherhood, whose experiences may not otherwise be heard & connect with professional women artists exploring motherhood. Anyone who identifies as a mother is welcome. The project is coordinated by artist Xaverine MA Bates.</text>

              <text>Established in 2011 by Artist and Mother Amy Dignam whilst pregnant with her third child. Initially as a platform for women artists who are also mothers Desperate Artwives was the only one of its kind at that time. From there it quickly grew into a strong collective of female artists most of who are mothers but also includes women who have other caring responsibilities who wanted to bring together reactive and proactive art to challenge stereotypes, call up social issues and create a visible international platform from which to do this. DAW has become a space for activism and motherhood. The collective produces group shows, protest-like subversive takeovers in public spaces as well as gallery spaces, performance events, exhibitions, workshops and talks that challenge the status quo, open up the lives of women around the world and basically shout loud. DAW aims to continually widen the scope of the women and mothers that it reaches around the world through embracing new technologies and new ways of sharing work online. The latest DAW initiative is the WOMAN UP! podcast, a series of interview in collaboration with Artist Susan Merrick and in association with the Women’s Art Library at Goldsmith’s College.</text>

              <text>The Mothership Project is a network of parenting artists in Ireland. The Mothership Project aims to support parenting artists in the development of their practice and to encourage arts organisations to make the art world a more inclusive place for artists with children. The Mothership Project wants to see societal and institutional change for parents in the art world. Being a parent can be challenging at the best of times, but with precarious circumstances and incomes, and uncertain futures parenting artists can be doubly challenged within a society that is lacking many supports for those with children.</text>
